Shitty Halfpipe is my favorite kind of skate punk band – rather than worrying about musical technicalities they are clearly out skating every day instead of sitting at home trying to write sick riffs. If a skate punk band doesn’t really skate, are they actually skate punk?? How much skate can a skate punk skate if a skate punk doesn’t skate? What? Shitty Halfpipe has released a mere three songs in the past year and they’re all shitty bangers, and all about skating – no shreddy lixx, no techy drum stop/starts, no whiny vocals, just short fast + loud thrashers, what skate punk should be.
Listen on Spotify or be a good sport and download it for a mere $1 from Bandcamp
“Bearing With It” is the latest release from the mysterious group (I think they’re from Tennessee?) and I can’t really make out the lyrics but I think it’s about that great feeling you get from a new set of bearings in your wheels. I am assuming the title is a send-up of the great DRI album “Dealing With It” but what do I, a simple caveman skatepunk enthusiast know?
For fans of: The Faction, Los Olvidados, old Thrasher mag comps, shitty halfpipes
