Checkp01nt, a band who stole your dad’s online banking password, just released their debut self-titled album. Checkp01nt hails from Sacramento, California, and describe themselves as “A bunch of metalheads raised on the Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtracks.”
Checkp01nt is a new band but the faces are likely familiar to those around the central valley scene – members have played in bands such as Emmure, At the Crossroads, Postpwnd and many more.
Their 9 song album clocks in around a quarter of an hour, and if these songs were played by most any other band it would be twice as long. From the 44 second opener “Sup,” to the epic two minute and 24 second opus “Change”, Checkp01nt dumps technical metal guitars, 78RPM skate punk drums and pop punk vocals into a giant blender and hits the “liquify” setting.
My favorite track is “Meh, Nevermind”, which appears to be a love song for the severely alcohol-impaired. I can imagine the affection between vocalist Kyle Blevins and his significant other as he croons “Hey look at that, I’m spewing guts on you. This apartment’s trashed, but I still have you” Ahh, young, drunk (plus maybe a little meth, this is Sacramento after all) love.
Check out Checkp01nt on Spotify, Apple Music, or wherever you stream music. “Meh, Nevermind” is featured on the Punk Rock in Exile playlist this month.
