Song Spotlight is a weekly feature where we cover one song that is currently on the Punk Rock in Exile Spotify playlist. Sometimes it is a brand new song, sometimes a little older but one we thought we should call attention to.
9TeeZ is a band from Belgium that exists to celebrate all things 90s skatepunk. For many, this is the golden era, the Tony Hawk Pro Skater era, where fast drumming and killer riffs were implanted onto the brains of countless teenagers around the world while they twiddled their fingers trying to land a 1080 or the longest railslide in videogame history.
9Teez is on a mission to re-infect the brains of the THPS era with new songs inspired by bands like the Offspring, Blink 182, Sum41 and NOFX. Over the past year they’ve released several singles, including “Spotty” which came out in early 2021 and has been on regular rotation on Punk Rock in Exile.
The haunting chorus “Can you scratch me, can you scrub me, you’ll get lucky” on this tragic tale of an eczema outbreak turned love song shows us that 9TeeZ can find humor even in their own personal misfortunes.
