Brooklyn-based band The Unders released their new album III on King Pizza Records, with 10 songs of jerky, rhythmic post-punk. Tracks like “Who’s In Charge?” and “He Combs His Hair and Brushes His Teeth” bring musical images of Gang of Four and early Devo, while some of the melodies of some of the more straight-ahead punk songs like “Sleep For What” remind me of the Marked Men.
The rhythm section leaves a lot of open space for the guitars and vocals to occupy when they want to, which gives the album a great sense of dynamics.
Standout tracks: Ohio!, Who’s in Charge?
