SoSo is a self-described “offensively average” pop punk band from the great continent, and country of Australia, land of Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, aka the Australian Lassie. What does Skippy have to do with SoSo? Other than being an offensively average 60s TV show that me and my dumb friends watched in reruns religiously in “college”, absolutely nothing!
SoSo is a pretty new band and the majority of their existence has been during a pandemic. So if you’re a new, young band, getting radio play, getting an internet buzz, but you can’t play a damn show, what the heck are you going to do?
Write a song about it, yah! Nah. Actually, yah. SoSo’s latest single is pub rock sing-along for the COVID generation (I know it has only been a year but it seems like a decade since I’ve seen live music). You don’t need a lot of words to get the point across that YAH! You want to get the hell out your house and have some fun and NAH! Being stuck at home with a covid lockdown super blows.
And Australia locked down bigly, as a certain orange-skinned former world leader might say. In some regions they shut the pubs, the restaurants, residents had to stay close to home, and couldn’t go out at night. Now Australia has only a handful of new cases a day now, and things are getting back to normal – so normal, in fact, that SoSo is able to head out on a four day tour (!!!) to promote their new song. Over here in the USA, we’re celebrating that only 3,000 people per day DIE here from COVID each day. Australia has not had a single COVID death in 2021. Good job, mates.
In “Yeah Nah” SoSo transports us to an imaginary pub where the VB’s are passed out like confetti and all your mates are yelling along, shoulder-to-shoulder, singing at the top of your lungs, except, oh right, the rest of us are still in that pesky pandemic and chugging beer remotely with our friends on a Zoom meeting. But for a minute:48, SoSo took us to an alternate reality, and SoSo, I thank you, and the great country of Australia, for that.
Listen to Yeah Nah on Spotify or where you stream music. And if you’re lucky enough to be in Australia, go check them out on tour!
